Abstract Nativity

When designing the visuals for WLC Christmas services, I felt called to move beyond the traditional. Rather than portraying a typical nativity scene, I wanted to create something more open—something that allows the viewer to find themselves in the story.
Whether through race, gender identity, social roles, or personal background, this piece invites people to reflect on what it means for them to witness the birth of hope. By distilling the scene down to its most essential forms, I aimed to create space for connection, imagination, and inclusion.
Deep blues were chosen to bring a sense of calm and comfort to the scene, while touches of gold leaf speak to the sacred royalty of the newborn child. The goal was to make the nativity not just something to look at—but something to enter into. Something that feels both ancient and deeply personal.
